# Free Sports Bet

Essentially there is no such thing as a free sports bet. There are games and rounds of golf for example that may seem like they are a free sports bet, but they are not totally free despite information that may seem to the contrary. For example no one could have predicted Greg Norman's epic collapse at the 1986 Masters Golf Tournament, but because of that those who did predict such an occurrence felt like they got a free sports bet because they had basically nothing to lose and everything to gain when Greg Norman did blow the lead. Norman's collapse is one of those events that has been talked about in the golf world for decades and for those who predicted that he would actually win the tournament it proved that there is no such thing as a free sports bet.

A lot of people assumed and placed bets that with "The Rocket" Roger Clemens leading the way that the Red would surely defeat the New York Mets to win the World Series in 1986. Very few could have predicted that the ball would roll through Bill Buckner's legs and the Miracle Mets would be triumph in Game 7. For those who did make that accurate prediction the odds were so heavily stacked against them that it was like making a free sports bet. That free sports bet that made some New York Mets fans some money would continue to haunt diehard Red Sox for years to come. That same free sports bet would also cause Bill Buckner's name to be linked to infamy forever seemingly in the Boston, Massachusetts area.

Of the two national championships that legendary basketball coach Dean Smith won at North Carolina you could say that one of them was definitely a fluke. No one expected the Fab Five to lose to North Carolina in the 1993 NCAA Title Game, essentially once again making it a free sports bet if you picked against the Michigan Wolverines. They certainly did not expect to lose the way they did with Chris Webber forgetting exactly how many timeouts Michigan had left. That sort of ending would have been a free sports bet that we all would have likely lost.
