# No More Beer Belly

The first step to building powerful abdominal muscles is to get rid of your beer belly. If you have a little bit of a gut or a pot belly, not only will you look better by getting rid of it but you will also feel better as well. The first thing that you need to know about the ominous beer belly is that it does not really have a lot to do with beer at all. People who don't drink any beer at all can still walk around with what is known as a beer belly. The real cause behind a beer belly is having a surplus of calories, which leads to fat being accumulated or stored on the torso. The reason why men tend to develop the beer belly more easily than women is because men and women tend to store fat differently on their bodies. While men develop extra weight around their abdomen, women tend to gain weight in the hips and thighs.

Even though beer is by far not the only culprit for the development of a beer belly, alcohol is definitely detrimental to your weight because beer is a high calorie beverage, and the calories are empty. A single glass of beer can easily contain around 146 calories on average. Even if you only drink one glass of beer every night, the calories can really add up fast.

There are a number of other things about beer that allow it to cause our beer bellies. For example, beer typically makes is feel hungry, and when we are drinking, the food that we usually have on hand includes nuts, pretzels and other snack foods that are full of sugars, salts, fats and completely empty calories that do not make us feel filled up. Beer also causes our blood sugar levels to decline, which can cause lethargy. Lethargy will cause us to burn far less calories than we should be spending, and by burning less calories, we are going to develop a beer belly more quickly.

The best way to overcome your beer belly is to figure out what lifestyle choices are contributing to it. If beer drinking is what is causing your beer belly, then you should either switch to light beers, cut down on the amount of beer that you are drinking, or stop drinking all together. If it is something else causing your beer belly, make the adjustments that are necessary.
