"anxiety Sets In . . . I Can't Sleep. " Sound Like Your Job Search?

I was reading about one woman's struggle with the job market in a recent publication (I'm going to call her "Jenny"). It was pretty grim.

For example, Jenny talks about sitting down in front of her computer every morning without any hint of a response to the many applications she had sent out.

"Making up reasons to stay positive is a second-by-second daily chore," she lamented.

The reason this sad article caught my attention is because it is so characteristic of what's happening almost universally in today's job marketplace. Layoffs, business closings, lousy credit system, millions of extra job-seekers clogging the market . . . it's no wonder anxiety sets in and people can't sleep.

I wanted to call Jenny and reassure her that the problems she's having finding a job is not because of her. It's because she's doing it the wrong way!

Look. We only know one way of finding a job. It's the way we were taught the first time we went into the job market. Write a reverse chronology resume. Send it to some job sites like Monster or HotJobs. Email a bunch of companies. Answer some ads. Maybe contact some agencies or recruiters. And then wait for the phone to ring.

The trouble is, in this job market, it doesn't.

The reason is very simple. You see, you're using last century techniques that simply don't work today . . . unless you've got weeks, even months to wait for a job offer. Today's job marketplace requires a wholly different and much more effective system.

As Jenny reports in her article, "Being unemployed is like having war aged against you. Your only defense is to crawl into a box and cower or become creative and reinvent yourself."

Becoming creative and reinventing yourself is, in fact, the way out.

For example, forget about using your resume to find a job. The focus of your attention must be to use innovative strategies to arrange a face-to-face meeting with your next boss . . . not an interview. The good news is that if you use some exciting 21st Century techniques you can be in front of your next boss in a matter of hours. And be entertaining a job offer in as little as 14 days.

If you're ready to reinvent yourself because you finally realize that the old-fashioned approaches simply don't get the job done then everything will change for you when you use a plan that shows you, step-by-step, how to land a good job in days.

That way you'll never find yourself in Jenny's sad position: "I keep my habits--getting up early, getting ready for that phone call that will invite me for an interview. But as the day progresses, the call never comes. And another day has ended."
