1 Reason To Use Free Weights Instead Of Machines When Lifting.
Our muscular system is very complex. Doing lifts with machines will make lifting more weight (so it seems) easier, but that is only because the machine is doing some of the work. Unlike free weights, machines will guide the weights along a certain path already laid out. This makes it so the only work your muscles have to do is move it along that path. There is no stabilizing required. This basically means that you are building strong muscles that aren't very useful in the real world. If you ever need to lift anything in your life, you can bet that there won't be a machine there to guide it along. When you use free weights to lift you'll find that you can't do as much weight because your muscles are required to stabilize the weight and keep it going where you want it. Not only will this break down more muscle tissue (which is always what you're after) but it may also increase your coordination. By using free weights in your workout, you'll be using all of your available muscle tissue to lift and hold the weights, resulting in a better workout in less time. If you're trying to build muscle and burn fat, it doesn't get any better than that.
