10 Dog Naming Tips

Finding the right dog name is an important part of welcoming your new dog home. But finding a good name can be a big task. There are several things you can do that can make the task a little simpler.

1. Find names that match well with the breed of dog you have. If you have a Chihuahua, then find names that match well with Chihuahuas.

2. Look for names that fit your dog's stature. And if your dog is extremely small, then look for names that are for big dogs, as this can be comical.

3. Figure out what makes your dog different from other dogs. What traits make it unique?

4. Ask your family and friends for suggestions. Also, have them watch your dog and see what traits jump out to them.

5. When searching for name ideas, be sure to take notes. Then be sure to reread your notes. Some really good ideas might jump out at you as you read.

6. Don't let yourself get stuck on just one name. You might overlook some other great names if your focused on just one.

7. Take your dog to a dog park and get to know some of the other dogs that are there. Find out what their names are and talk to their owners about their names.

8. Make sure to not pick the name of a family member or close friend. You don't want to insult them or leave your dog confused.

9. Make a list of all the names you like and organize it with your favorite names first.

10. See how your dog responds to each of your favorite names. There's no point naming your dog something if they aren't going to go by it.

While using these tips can make finding the right name a little easier, the task can still be a challenge. Remember to do your research, study each name you think of and find out what it really means. Try to not get discouraged and don't be afraid to ask for help. The most important thing to remember is to have fun finding names and playing with your dog. Good Luck!
