10 Down-to-earth Ways To Cultivate Your Crown Chakra And Support Your Spiritual Journey

For each of us, it is possible to rise above the worries and confusion of daily life and have a sense of peace, harmony, unconditional love, and even bliss. It is possible to feel unity with all things, including your "higher power."

Clearing, balancing, and cultivating your crown chakra can help you prepare for these higher spiritual states.

Highest of the seven chakras, the crown chakra is located at the top of the head. Called Sahasrara in Sanskrit, it governs spirituality, pure consciousness, transcendence, and unity with the divine.

Read on to learn ten ways that you can clear and cultivate this key chakra. But first:

What Are the Chakras? (Chakras are organs of our energy body--energy portals that receive, assimilate and transmit life energies to/from the rest of the cosmos.

There are seven primary chakras, located along the body's center-line, from the bottom of the spine to the top of the head. Each chakra is associated with different aspects of body, life, personality, and spirituality.

The Healthy Chakra (A healthy chakra is open, allowing energy to flow freely both horizontally, in an exchange of energy with the universe, and vertically, connecting it with the other chakras.

It's common to have one or more chakras blocked or out of balance to some degree. This can cause disruptions in a person’s body, mind, spirit, and life.

The Crown Chakra (The crown chakra is the highest of the seven chakras, located at the top of the head (or just above). Its keywords are "transcendence" and "pure consciousness." It is associated with the colors white and purple, and the element consciousness. The seventh chakra is often pictured as a lotus flower, opening to allow spiritual awakening.

The seventh chakra is an avenue to higher states of consciousness. As we develop it, we become increasingly aware of consciousness itself--the eternal part of us that is beyond ego, thought, feeling, and body. This brings more harmony and peace to our lives.

When fully awakened, the crown chakra is said to confer the bliss of unity-consciousness, unifying us with the Divine Source, as well as everything else in the universe.

Is Your Crown Chakra Healthy? Someone with a relatively clear, balanced, and developed crown chakra usually considers themselves a spiritual (though not necessarily religious) person. They usually spend regular time in prayer, meditation or other devotions, and enjoy peaceful activities. They have a sense of meaning, purpose, and connection to a higher calling. They may have glimpses of unity-consciousness and spiritual bliss. They radiate good-will and compassionate amusement. They are mentally stable and fairly well grounded, and although they may be indifferent to many social conventions, they still maintain their bodies and at least a few relationships.

Someone with a highly developed seventh chakra is usually widely recognized as an an advanced or enlightened spiritual master.

10 Ways to Cultivate Your Crown Chakra (So you'd like a greater sense of meaning and purpose, more harmony and inner peace, a stronger connection to all-that-is? Here are ten ideas for developing your seventh chakra:
(Spend an extended time in stillness and silence. Hold the intention to be aware of the witness part of you that is beyond feelings and thought. (Visit places such as mountain-tops that offer high, clear vistas. From the "space between thoughts," dissolve separation and allow yourself to be a part of what you see.
Take an ordinary day and offer it in its entirety, "warts and all," to the Divine or the higher good.
Surrender a problem to your higher power. Be grateful for the help that will come.
Cut back on activities and establish blocks of free time to meditate, pray, and just be. (Wear or decorate a room in a shade of purple. Allow it to remind you of your crown chakra.
Sit with a natural object to which you feel an affinity, such as a tree or rock. Practice feeling your connection to it.
Breathe the scents of rose or lotus and feel the molecules mingling with yours.(Do anything that makes you feel peaceful and harmonious.
Repeat an affirmation such as:
"I am connected to and supported by everything in the universe."
"I walk in complete peace and harmony."
"I am one with the universe."
"I am open to experiencing my true nature."
"Each day, I become more conscious."

Intention Matters! (When working with your subtle energy, intention is the key to success. So before any chakra-clearing activities, set your intention. For example, you might set a general intention for crown chakra balancing, or a more specific goal of having more inner peace.

With your purpose clear, perform the activity mindfully. Pause occasionally to silently affirm that your actions are creating your intention. Pairing any of these activities with an affirmation is especially effective.

A Seventh Chakra Blessing May you be at peace. May you understand your true nature. May you feel your connection to all that is, was, and will be.
