Know what you need to pack and where. Currently the airlines are only permitting passengers to carry on three ounces at most of any liquid or gel-like material. Additionally, the substance needs to be inside a clear container packed inside a transparent baggie. If you wish to bring along anything more, you must check it in. Alternatively you can simply buy it when you get where you're going.

Checked in luggage still must conform to a weight limit of 50 pounds or less. To avoid a long delay at the claims line, weigh your bags ahead of time. Take as much as you can in your carry-on bag.

Plan to arrive early -very early. Most airports have websites that can provide fliers with up-to-date information on the wait time for flights. Typically the current rules is to arrive at lest two hours before the estimated take-off time

Obtain the right identification. Certain destinations require visitors to have specific ID. Go online to discover if any ID required apply in your case. This way you'll have time to apply and receive your identification.

Wear comfortable - and easily removable - shoes. Nearly every security checkpoint will require that you take off your shoes. Avoid a hassle by investing in a comfortable pair of slip-ons.

No beverages of any sort, not even the ones bought in the secure area, are allowed onboard the plane. Take care of your thirst by consuming your drink before boarding.

If you find the long wait unbearable, you can only imagine what it is like for a small child. Ease their pain by carrying along some entertaining activities for them to play with.

Follow instructions given by airport personnel. The workers at the airport are only doing their job to the best of their ability in order to provide you with a safe flight. Avoid power struggles and just go along with what they tell you.

In special circumstances, bring along a doctor's note. Passengers are still allowed to bring along medications and infant formula as long as they obtain a note signed by a physician.

Don't worry, be happy. Life is best when enjoyed. Don't allow the fear of terrorists or the annoyance of airport security measures to dampen your spirits.
