10 Tips For Selling Your Home In Surrey, Bc
1) Rent A Storage Unit The first thing everyone should do when putting their house on the market is to rent a storage unit. As homeowners, we end up collecting a lot of stuff over the years and you want to be able to showcase a house that has a lot of room to put stuff. The best way to accomplish this is by first clearing out your clutter. 2) Remove Clutter The best way to look at clutter is this: if you haven't looked at it, moved it, touched it, or used it within the last six-months... off to the storage unit it goes. It also might be a good idea to donate some of those items that you haven't used in over a year. This also includes the stuff you have in your garage and laying around the yard. 3) Clean Up The Yards Clean up any clutter that you have in your yard. Unused seasonal items should go right into the storage unit. And when it comes to seasons, you want to make sure you are tidying up based on the season. If you are showing your house in the winter, make sure you keep the walkways clear of snow and ice. If it's autumn, keep the leaves clear. Spring and summer, make sure the lawns are cut and the hedges trimmed. Oh, and that old plastic play set you bought for your kids in the early 90's, well it might be time to think about storing or donating it. Really, any personal objects in your yard should be removed. 4) Remove Personal Objects When you invite a potential buyer into your house, you want them to be able to think about it as their home. One of the ways to help them envision this is by removing all of your personal objects. This includes family pictures, heirlooms, knickknacks, your stuffed dog Buster, and all those photo albums you have stored in the hallway closet. 5) Rearrange Closets And Cabinets You know how tempting it is to look in someone's medicine cabinet, well potential buyers get free rein to look in all your closest and cabinets. Clean up your closest and cabinets by removing clutter and organizing what is left. This will not only make the closet space look bigger but will save you from any potential embarrassing moments. 6) Paint Now that you have all the clutter removed and the place is looking neat and organized, it's time to make it look brighter with a fresh coat of paint. Wherever you can, repaint the room in soft neutral colours to help the room look bigger and brighter. 7) Improve Lighting Adding more light to your home doesn't just mean replacing all the bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, but also updating those old fixtures they go in. Retro may be the fad of the moment, but no one wants to look at that ugly 15-year-old light fixture hanging in the kitchen. 8) Remove Curtains Removing the curtains has a two-fold effect. The first benefit is allowing more natural light into you home, making the rooms look brighter and bigger. The second benefit will be that you will be removing those old window treatments, and if they are anything like that light fixture in the kitchen, well then it is about time. 9) Add Mirrors Another great way to add more light into you home, and make rooms look larger, is by add some strategically placed mirrors. And no, these mirrors are not used to make that crack in the wall magically disappear. You'll have to make those minor repairs yourself. 10) Make Minor Repairs Finally, last but not least, is making minor repairs. Do you still have that leaky faucet in the kitchen; well it's time to repair it. Is that hole in the drywall still covered up with a load-bearing poster? It's time to repair it. Still using a pair of pliers to turn the shower on? You guessed it; it is time to repair it. Any minor repairs that you have been putting off will need to be rectified before you can even think about putting your house up for sale.
