10 Ways To Help Your Kids Stay Fit And Healthy
Yes, is the answer. Here are 10 ways we can make sure our kids are fit and healthy. 1) Encourage them to play out at lunchtime - there was a time when this was all we'd do, but today's generation of youngsters are much more likely to favour the cosy environment of a computer room or dinner time class. You can't make them go outside, but a little encouragement doesn't hurt. 2) Walking to school - again, we all used to do it, but nowadays our little ones are driven there and dropped at the door. If you can, why not make the time to walk them in. Or, if they're too old to be walked with, why not arrange for a group of their friends to all walk together? They'll be safe and walking is a great way to exercise. 3) Limit their TV intake - adults love TV and so do children, but there should be limits as it may be stopping them doing other activities. Try not to watch too much as a parent, as your kids will undoubtedly follow suit. If they like watching sport with you on TV, then why not follow it up by taking them to the park and actually playing it? 4) How about a martial art? - Not every child likes football or tennis, so if they've yet to show too much interest in mainstream sports, why not ask them if they fancy a self-defence class like karate or judo. It can be great fun and it's an excellent form of exercise. 5) Family gyms - if it's raining or cold out, don't just plonk the kids in front of the goggle box. Instead, why not take them along to an indoor tennis centre, swimming pool or a family or kids gym? 6) Let them have the garden - even if you like to do a bit of gardening, during some key growing up years, there's nothing better than having a set of goal posts or cricket set to play with in the back garden. Yes, it'll ruin a patch of your grass and the plants are in for a tough time, but your kids will be active and, most importantly, safe. 7) Limit computer time - just as TV has taken over, so too has the world wide web. Again, limiting their time online will encourage them to find other fun things to do - like playing outside with friends or having fun in the garden. 8) Join in - it can be difficult to find time with our children at the best of times, but why not take the time you do spend with them outside or into a sporting environment? You'll be surprised by how much energy you'll start to have after just a few weeks of joining in and it'll break the bad habit of crashing after work in front of the television. 9) Healthy food = more energy - feed your kids unhealthy foods and they'll feel lazy and lethargic. More fruit and veg in their tuckbox might just give them the energy they need to run around, rather than sit by a screen. 10) Encourage, but don't pressure - if your child shows any interest in joining a sports team, then be supportive. Too many kids quit their team because of overly pushy parents, sometimes trying to live out their own dreams through their children. If they're allowed to just enjoy it, they probably will. Maybe it's time to find out more about where to find a children's gym in your area.
