12 Days To A Healthy Holiday: Day #1 – Appreciate The Season
Often times the holidays become about which house your celebrate at, who am I buying gifts for, how can I get the little ones to their recital, what should I wear to this party, etc. With December almost half over and New Years Eve creeping up on us, now is the time to take a moment and reflect on the holidays. What do the holidays mean to you? They mean something different to everyone. For some, it's a religious holiday during which they will connect with God on a very spiritual level. For others it is a time for family and friends and to catch up with those who you don't see on a regular basis. Whatever this holiday season means to you, take a moment to reflect on it. What are your favorite sounds of the season? Is it the clanging of the bells when you walk by the red buckets of the Salvation Army? Maybe it's a group of carolers on your Christmas Stroll? What about your favorite holiday songs that make you smile every time you hear them. I can hear a carol and remember exactly where I was when I first heard it, like Madonna's Santa Baby, I heard it for the first time when I was interning at Kiss 108 in Boston, see that just put a big smile on my face. What are your favorite smells of the season? This one should be an easy one to remember. I am a big fan of the sizzling turkey or ham in the oven when the family gets together. As a sweets person, I am also quite partial to the smell of Christmas cookies and peppermint. It's quite amazing how certain smells really do trigger your mind into remembering specific places and things. The old cliché goes, stop and smell the roses, but let's put a little tweak on that for the holidays, why not stop and smell the evergreen. It's everywhere and it brings back some amazing memories of times gone by and good times to come. I hope these 12 Days to a Healthy Holiday will help you make it through this season a little healthier in mind, body and spirit. Take a moment to send this blog post to a friend and remind them how important it is to appreciate the season and the people who make this season so special. Happy Holidays!! Whatever you celebrate, may health and happiness follow you always.
