12 Days To A Healthy Holiday: Day #2 – De-stressing Your Holiday
In a recent blog entry, Heather explained how she keeps her spirit whole, “I have a morning ritual where I meditate for 10 minutes, journal briefly to “check in”, do a short reading to set the tone of my day and then end with a prayer. The whole practice lasts about 20 minutes. “ Here are some ways you can apply some of these practices and others to your holiday so you can have a stress-free healthy holiday. 1.)Meditate: Meditation comes in all forms and is a very personal thing. Whether you spend the moments reflecting in a dark room with candles lit or can close your eyes at your desk and escape for a few minutes to a more peaceful place, the practice of releasing yourself of any stresses around you is a very freeing one. 2.)Journal: Heather talks about a quick check-in and what better way to not only help remind yourself of where you are and how you got there, but to also look back on the holiday season when it was over and remind yourself of the wonderful blessings of the season. Take a moment out of each day or even every other day and write a few quick notes to yourself about the special memories of the day and of the season. My mother has journaled for a large part of her adult life and has books of great memories and experiences that she has shared with us or with others in her life. Not only is it a good way to relax and spend a little time with yourself during the holidays, it's also a great way to reminisce when the holidays are over. 3.)Do A Short Reading: Again a very personal experience. Chose something that speaks to you. I am a lover of poetry and have chosen many great works to keep me focused on what is important in life and during the holidays. There is really no right or wrong choice, just something that speaks to you. These are just three steps that you can take to center yourself during the holiday season which has a tendency to get stressful. I hear from a lot of people on January 2nd that they can't believe how fast the holidays flew by this year. Don't be one of those people this year. Stop, reflect and enjoy the festive season and you'll appreciate even more. Relax or it will pass you by in the blink of an eye.
