12 Keys To Transplant Roses
There may come a day when you may need to or want to move your rose bushes to another location either within your own garden or perhaps even to a totally different location. There are some very necessary steps and precautions to take before attempting to transplant your rose bushes. These steps are listed below. Plan to take as much as the root as possible Try to avoid transplanting your rose bushes during the growing season. Dormant roses are easier to move because it decreases the risk of shock. Pruning your rose bushes just prior to transplanting is NOT a good idea and will harm the plants production of sugars If you are moving your rose bushes to another location, cover the roots with burlap to keep the roots moist. You want to lose as little moisture in your roots as possible Try to avoid exposing the roots of the plant in the hot sun or allow the root ball to lose any of its moisture. You will most likely lose some roots during transplanting. Once you have prepared the ground where you will be re-planting your plant, you may begin the process of planting your roses. If you want to have a successful transplant, water is the key to its success. If the bush has been watered sufficiently, you have a greater chance of having a successful transplant. Rose roots grow deep into the ground. That tends to lessen the amount of soil that can be taken from the original hole. When it comes times to actually plant the rose bush in its new home, try placing some bone meal in the bottom of the hole. Placing the plant slightly higher than the hole that you originally placed it in would be a good idea. This will allow the plant to settle in its new location. Once your plants have been moved, if you notice that they are wilting at the tips, increase the amount of water you are watering. This is an indication that the plant is having trouble supporting the entire plant from the root to tips. After increasing the amount of watering if you do, if the wilting still persists, prune any tips that do not recover. With the correct care and procedures, transplanting rose bushes can be done with ease and will allow your plants to flourish in their new location for years and years to come.
