2 Corinthians 12:9 - God's Grace Is Sufficient For You
This is possibly one of the most misunderstood verses in Paul’s letters. People have twisted it and skewed it to mean the exact opposite of what Paul and the Holy Spirit originally intended. First of all, it’s important to understand that in this verse, the Lord is referring to Paul’s requests for God to remove Paul’s thorn (see the prior verse). So when the Lord said that His grace was sufficient for Paul, he was not saying, “Paul, just bear up under that thorn,” or, as religious thinking might say, “Paul, I gave you that thorn to teach you something, so just let it there because it’ll make you stronger!” That’s about as cruel as a father saying, “Son, put your hand on that hot burner and keep it there. It will hurt, but just let your hand burn off because it will make you stronger.” No father in their right mind would be so cruel, so why would our loving heavenly father be any different? What the Lord really meant was, “Paul, you don’t need to ask me to take that thorn out of your flesh. I didn’t give it to you - Satan did! I’ve given YOU sufficient grace to get rid of it!” The same is true for you. If you ever experience demonic opposition like Paul did, use the grace that God has given you to break free in Jesus’ name!
