These are very important aspects and if any of these features are inadequate, after a few uses you will be unsatisfied with your purchase. Any cordless trimmer of good quality will cost anywhere from $100 up to $250 so you don’t want to choose one that is lacking in the most important aspects just to save a couple bucks.

The two most common battery types for trimmer/edger tools today are Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) and Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion). The Ni-Cad batteries have been used in trimming tools for a long time, and the Lithium-Ion battery is the new comer to power tools. In my research, the Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery is superior.

The benefits of the Lithium-Ion battery are:

· Faster charge time – some fully charge in 30 to 40 minutes.
· Increased life cycle – how many months or years it lasts.
· Light in weight
· Keeps a charge when not in use
· And has a higher performance in cold weather

In my opinion, a cordless trimmer/edger with a Lithium-Ion battery will last longer in it’s life, and while you’re using it on the job. The Ni-Cad batteries tend to not hold their charge as long and will die on you before the job is done, depending on the size of your property.
