2-in-1 Lawn Trimmer Edger Tools - Choosing The Right One For You

We all have to mow the lawn usually on a weekly basis, but we also need to trim and edge certain areas of our yard too. The 2-in-1 cordless trimmer/edger will get both jobs done while only needing one tool instead of two. Your lawn mower simply can’t cut all the grass that needs cutting obviously because most yards have a fence, a patio, a wall, or a tree or two within it’s boundaries. Because of these objects, the only way to maintain a neatly manicured lawn is by using a trimmer of some type.

Today, most cordless trimmer/edger tools are equipped with string or line, although you can buy metal blades for some models. They are fairly lightweight, require no gasoline, and because of the superior batteries today, there’s no need for an extension cord. And if you periodically clean your trimmer/edger after every other use, it should last for many years.

The 2-in-1 trimmer/edger is definitely a smart choice because you get two tools in one. Why buy a trimmer and an edger (2 tools) when you can buy one? Some trimmers simply convert to a walk behind edger and vice versa with an easy adjustment in a matter of seconds. Other benefits you’ll want to have are adjustable shafts, adjustable cutting head for slopes and hard to reach places, automatic line feed as opposed to banging the trimmer, and a space guard for protecting plants from damage when trimming and edging.

The main issues that you’ll want to keep in mind before purchasing a new trimmer/edger are the life of the battery, the battery type, and the weight of the tool. These are very important aspects and if any of these features are inadequate, after a few uses you will be unsatisfied with your purchase. Any cordless trimmer of good quality will cost anywhere from $100 up to $250 so you don’t want to choose one that is lacking in the most important aspects just to save a couple bucks.

The two most common battery types for trimmer/edger tools today are Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) and Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion). The Ni-Cad batteries have been used in trimming tools for a long time, and the Lithium-Ion battery is the new comer to power tools. In my research, the Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery is superior.

The benefits of the Lithium-Ion battery are:

· A longer run time – while you use it.
· Faster charge time – some fully charge in 30 to 40 minutes.
· Increased life cycle – how many months or years it lasts.
· Light in weight
· Keeps a charge when not in use
· And has a higher performance in cold weather

In my opinion, a cordless trimmer/edger with a Lithium-Ion battery will last longer in it’s life, and while you’re using it on the job. The Ni-Cad batteries tend to not hold their charge as long and will die on you before the job is done, depending on the size of your property.
