2 Methods For Dog Obedience Training

You shouldn't get too excited with your new dog or puppy when you bring it home from the pet store. That's because your not going to see any cute dog tricks until after you complete a little basic dog obedience training.

Just like a child learns new words, your training should start off with simple one word commands such as ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘heel’. Using only basic commands at first causes your dog to respond to communication in general and to you as its master. If only basic commands are taught first, your dog will learn well and will have an instinct to follow your commands in the future.

When first training your dog, don’t expect that he is as skilled in obeying commands as a student studying for a Masters Degree. If you are overly dominating when teaching your puppy, you risk alienating him and losing his trust in you as a good master. Use lots of love and rewards when your dog completes some obedience training. If you only use fear to teach your dog, he will be frightened to perform and may perform his tricks worse due to “stage-fright”.

The methods of rewarding a dog and keeping him on a figurative leash are used to train puppies. Rewarding the dog with treats and food is generally a more relaxed approach although not necessarily the best.Giving food treats to dogs after tricks may have the very negative impact of the dog expecting a chewy bone after the simplest of tricks, such as a simple ‘roll over’ or ‘sit’ command.

Taking into account this instance, some believe that taking a military approach is much more effective than kindness. Those who support military means use the leash method, which uses fear and authority to compel a dog to perform tricks without growing accustomed to rewards

However, don’t let the leash do all the work.Keep in mind that the ultimate goal of training is to have the dog always obey with or without punishment or reward. When this goal is achieved, the dog will truly be subject to you in a positive relationship and you will have an excellently behaved dog.

No matter which method you choose, dog obedience training should insure that in the end the dog is subordinate to you and obeys your commands, rather than running wild. Therefore, as a result of basic dog obedience training you will have a behaved dog, an object that you can love as a best friend, and an entertainer for all of your friends.
