2 Reasons To Change Your Mindset In Order To Get Out Of Debt

It’s hard to adopt a positive frame of mind when you have to get out of debt. The amount you owe and the way it affects your lifestyle seems to hang over you like a grey cloud.

But there are some very good reasons to see the sun behind that cloud--even if you have to imagine it. Here are 2 of them.

1. You will get more of what you focus on. This is true regardless of what your belief system (or lack thereof) is. You don't even have to acknowledge the spiritual aspect of what people are calling the Law of Attraction, in order to recognize that law's effects.

The Law of Attraction states that you will get more of whatever you focus on, when your mental focus is combined with strong emotion. There's a pretty good chance that you feel strongly about your finances being underwater!

Unfortunately, this just creates more of the same. Most people who use the concept of attraction teach that you will draw whatever you focus on emotionally, to yourself, just like a magnet.

If that sounds a little far-out to you, think of it this way: if you focus on your debt all the time, you'll likely see only examples of how bad things are for you, and how they could get worse. You'll train your subconscious to pay strongest attention to those things. This will manifest in how you live your life.

In other words, you'll create a self-fulfilling prophecy--one of being broke!

But if you focus on how good it will feel to finally be out of debt, taking some time each day to imagine that your efforts to get out of debt have already succeeded, that is going to re-orient you in a positive direction.

You'll see ways in which your efforts are working, which will inspire you to do even more. You may even start to see new ways to get out of debt that you haven't thought about before.

Finally, your positive attitude will have an effect on everyone you meet--even the people you meet only on the phone or online. This can have a dramatic impact on your powers of persuasion. It might come in handy should you ever need to negotiate a debt settlement, or try and get your credit card company to lower your interest rate by a couple of points (which is definitely worth a try).

2. You will be healthier. Don't believe me? Stress has a huge negative impact on your body. But you can eliminate a lot of that stress with your new attitude towards your debt and your life.

If nothing else, imagining what life will be like when you get out of debt will provide a momentary rest from all the pressure you feel.

Do it enough and you'll soon be able to accept the fact that the measures you are taking really will get you out of the red and into the black at some future point. This will have a dramatic impact on how you live your day and even on how you sleep (which in turn affects everything else).

These are only two benefits of changing your mindset about your financial situation. But they have some very tangible results--and they will likely help you get out of debt much sooner than you think!
