2 Serious Communication Errors When Getting Your Ex Back

Pulling your life back together and rebuilding your relationship with the one you love is a rocky road with a lot of potholes, but one of the biggest problems people face when trying to get their exes back has to do with the communication between the two people.

How much communication should there be? What should I say? How should he be responding if I'm doing it right? These are all questions we ask ourselves regarding what contact we have with one another during an attempt to reconcile with our exes.

First off, for about a month after the breakup itself there shouldn't even BE any contact at all. I realize not every situation allows 0 contact whatsoever, but you should be able to figure out what's necessary and what isn't.

The two biggest and most common problems you'll find pertaining to communication arise because of people violating this No-Contact Rule in one way or another. Here are brief rundowns of these two mistakes.

1) Drunk Dialing. You're probably fairly familiar with the idea of it: after a late-night binge you're feeling more depressed than ever and you have so much emotional overflow that you feel you just HAVE to talk to your ex. Before you even realize you have a phone in your hand, you've dialed your ex's number and are spilling everything you're feeling into either an answering machine or your ex's mostly-asleep ear.

2) Text Message Terrorism (TMT). We all fall into this trap...feeling panicked and just wanting to do everything we can to rebuild the relationship, we virtually attack our ex with an onslaught of text messages, phone calls, emails, and instant messages. All we want to do is make things work, but all we end up doing is making things worse. The person we love gets so fed up with us that he puts as much distance between us as possible.

Both of these errors are avoidable and fixable if they do happen, but either or both can really make your life harder if you truly want to pursue a reconciliation with your ex.
