2 Simple Steps To Success With Self-hypnosis

Try and think back to when you were younger, see if you can remember how easy it was to focus on specific things with out all of the distracting hum-drum that has built up in your subconscious mind now that you are older. It is a common belief that as we get older our intelligence grows, but, if you look at how many vital skills we quickly learn in the early part of our lives, this belief may be questionable. With the use of self-hypnotism it is possible to retrain the subconscious and gain the ability to learn new complex skills as an adult, which before may have seemed impossible. Your subconscious is what shapes your personality and what drives you emotionally.

Hypnotism techniques have come a long way since the days of the swinging pocket watch of yesteryear. Self-hypnosis is now a very valid way for us to rid ourselves of personality traits we may have which are causing us upset. Things such as shyness, lack of confidence, over-eating and cigarette smoking can all be over-come by the focus gained through self-hypnosis.

The effectiveness of self-hypnosis all depends upon your willingness to accept the process. The process of hypnotising yourself is really only 2 simple steps.

Step 1 - Total relaxation must be achieved.

You must put yourself into a state of sleep. Not asleep as when you go to bed at night, when you are unconscious and unaware, but into a trance like sleep. This can be achieved by lying or sitting in a quiet place and counting down from 20 to 0. Concentrate on your breathing and with each exhale you will become more relaxed. Once relaxed you will move on to step 2.

Step 2 - Concentrate on a phrase or suggestion aimed at the goal you are trying to achieve.

You will be in a higher state of concentration than if you were in normal thinking mode. All 5 of your senses will be in a state of hyper awareness. Your suggestion should be positive in context and must be repeated over and over, so as to ingrain it into your subconcsious. You will very likely experience rapid eye movement, REM. This doesn't indicate that you are asleep, because, unlike when you are sleeping normally, with self-hypnosis you can awaken whenever you wish.

If you want to use self-hypnosis as a tool to change things in your life, you must allow your willpower to push you into submission. The initial momentum to do something will be created by your subconscious, but, your conscious willpower is required to make the big changes in the way you think.

In short successful hypnosis requires willpower and commitment.
