#20 The Feelings & Emotions Wearing The Graduation Cap
When student's move the hall or high school gynasium for the commencement, they are addressed by faculty and classmates, also donned in his or her doctoral cap and gown. To see everyone together, with an amassed sense of achievement, you realize how unforgettable such a day is. There is a sustained happiness for guests and participants alike, as all are in great anticipation of his or her diplomas. Let’s hope this motivation lasts a lifetime, and continues for a few more of these prideful events. As the Valedictorian and dean of school prepare us for this transition with speeches about life in high school and beyond, we challenge our completed work, our future goals and our ideals about society. There is a bundle of energy about to explode for when the entirery of the graduating class can simultaneously rejoice at having completed twelve years (or more) of school. There are large and growing smiles after attaining that piece of paper from the school principal. One-by-one, each name is called. Cheers and claps resound from the auditorium. A sense of relief, I’m sure for many more (and maybe even from some parents). The students all chatter with excitement in their seats, impatiently awating their name (and hopefully it’s pronounced correctly). As an aside, there will be audience members and peers taking bets as to who trips up the stairs or falls on stage – who even hid the silly string or bull horn under his robe. With all the seriousness, everyone should remember as well that this is a celebration, and through the formality, have a bit of fun. But please, leave the sports arena whooping for outside. Afterward, there is glee and (too) much hugging. Parents cry. Students cry. Teachers cry. As we all know, these are tears of joy. We’ve now completed a huge journey in life. We take in all the advice, generosity and love from those around us. We look upon those memories even decades later and smile that same smile. Ah. We’re finished.
