27th October 2010, The Big Day For Toys!
Every year the association of toy retailers announces the toys that it predicts will be the top selling toys for the coming Christmas rush. This has been come somewhat of a self for filling prophesy because as soon as the list is released the retailer’s bulk buy. They then prominently display these toys so that agitated parents can find them easily while doing the last minuet shopping run, or popping in to get there presents bought in the lunch hour Knowing that the poor mums and dads will be pushed for time and can easily put their hands on any toy that appears on the top ten list of toys they mound an intensive series of TV advertising so that by the time the kids come to write their Christmas lists for Santa the top ten toy are in the forefront of their minds. It all runs around in a big circle of reinforcement that ensures that the top 10 hot list almost invariably comes out as the top ten sales in the shops. Another interesting side effect is the sale of domain names. Within an hour of the list coming out it will be impossible to by a nice short domain name with the names of any toys included as affiliate marketers pile onto the band wagon in an attempt to get their affiliate links to the top of the Google pile. Within an hour of the list coming out it will be impossible to buy a nice short domain name with the names of any toys included as affiliate marketers pile onto the band wagon in an attempt to get their affiliate links to the top of the Google pile. For may years now it has been known that if you include a brand name in your URL you will rank better, and most companies turn a blind eye to copy write issues because they sell more stuff. Not however LEGO! Register a domain name with ‘lego’ in it and within a month you will get a letter from their solicitors telling to that dire and expensive consequences will result if you fail to give it to them! So no matter how many of the top 10 contain the LEGO brand, don’t be temped to register them, it only leads to pain and expense, believe me I know!
