3 Career Changing Myths To Be Careful Of

Do not fall prey to these career myths, because if you believe them, you are losing out on many brilliant career opportunities. These myths could stem from your own pessimism, from fear or even from what you hear from others. It does not matter where it originated from, just make sure it does not keep you back.

Career Myth 1: You cannot get a career doing something you love

There is no reason why you cannot have a career in the field that you are passionate about. It is very possible for you to do something that you are passionate about, and still make money from it. Does the painter hate every brush stroke that she makes, or does the poet hate expressing herself with words? There are a lot of ways to make money and there are all sorts of jobs out there. You can have a career that you are passionate about, it just may require a bit of searching.

Career Myth 2: There is enormous risk switching careers now

There is risk in loads of things, not just when switching careers. There are even risks involved when playing a sport, but does that mean that you should not play sports? No, all it means is that you take some steps to limit the risk and move on. Do not let the fear of the risks hold you back.

Since you do not know what may happen in the new career, you may end up thinking about all the bad things which could happen. Since you know all about the career that you are currently in, you are at ease with it and there is nothing for you to fear. However, at the thought of leaving that job that you are comfortable with for something that is different and unknown, you may find yourself thinking of worst case scenarios like, "What if 'xyz' happens...". Nevertheless, by staying in your comfort zone, you do not grow and you miss out on the thrilling experiences you would have had.

Career Myth 3: I am waiting for the perfect job for me

Sometimes our conditions for the 'perfect job' may be unrealistic  like, "I want to have a huge office, working 5 hours in the day, and all I have to do is capture some data and still get paid well." Now, that is not to say that 'the ideal job for you does not exist, but it is a waste to just sit and wait until the career of your dreams shows up in front of you. There are probably many amazing careers out there that would fit you, but just because they do not perfectly meet all your criteria, you may let it pass you and end up missing out. So, it is better to be flexible and be open minded than wait forever for that 'perfect job'.
