3 Fun Postcard Marketing Techniques

You have decided to use postcards to market your business. Congratulations! You have found an incredibly marketing tool. Not only can postcards reach a large number of people for a little price, but they are a fun marketing tool to use. But what if you want to do something a little different? Here are three fun marketing techniques that you can use to create more interest in your business.

Go Bigger

If you are looking for a cheap way to mail postcards, then you can go with the postcard rate, which allows you to create a 4 ¼ by 6 inch standard postcard. However, if you are willing to spend a few more cents per card and pay the first class rate, then you can go with a super-sized card up to 6 1/8 by 11 ½ inches in size. This will allow you to include more detailed copy, better pictures, and even more information. It may cost a little more, but a bigger postcard means a bigger impression that you will have on your audience. And don’t worry – you can still do bigger on a budget. Ask about printing in one color in a variety of tints to give the look as though the postcard was printed in multiple colors.

Make it Exclusive

One way to help spark interest in your business is to make the postcard a ticket to an exclusive event. This could be a special shopping day, a special discount, or an actual ticket to get in the door of an exclusive event. The idea is that the customer has to return the card in order to get the savings or attend the event. This accomplishes two purposes – first, it creates a sense of urgency and exclusivity for the customer; and second, it allows you to track who is coming to the event. And since the postcards are already addressed to the customer, you can use the returned ones to create a mailing list for follow up postcard mailings.

Make it a Mystery

There is one advertising technique that works well for billboards that can be applied to postcards. The idea is that each billboard is a piece of a puzzle. As you drive along, you get a little bit more of the message, and you have to read all of the billboards to find out what the message is. You can do this with postcards by sending out multiple cards with pieces of a message. When the customer receives the final card, he or she will have the entire message. The message you choose to send is up to you, but make sure it is something that is worth the anticipation – a new promotion, special savings, or other secret that the customer will be excited to hear about.

Postcards can be used in many creative ways. Since they are inexpensive to create, you can send them out as often as needed. And since they are bright and eye-catching, you can guarantee that the client will read them. Try using them the next time you want to create talk about your business and be prepared to be astonished by the results.
