3 Good Ways To Get Your Next Camping Trips Fire To Light Easily
Camping starts with a good fire. The camp fire, for me, is the entire reason why I go. Well that and to get outdoors and away from it all, even if it is only for the weekend. If you really want to enjoy a camp fire, plan your trip in the early spring to the middle or late fall. These are the cooler months (in our area anyway) and the warmth of the camp fire makes a camping trip all worth it. You'll need to get that camp fire started. There are variety of ways of doing this and no you do not have to rub two sticks together. You can buy fire starters which is compressed material mixed with a chemical that allows it to burn rather slowly. These are smaller version of the logs you can buy at your local Target or Wal-mart for your fireplace. If you do not want to spend the money on fire starters, look no further than your dryer vent. The lint from your vent is highly flammable (scary isn't it?) and works great as a fire starter. Just bring plenty of it with you as it burns rather quickly depending on how dry it is. Stick a pile of it in your fire ring, place dry kindling over top of your lint in a TeePee shape and go ahead and light. The kindling will catch and your fire is off and running. Ok so you don't have the budget for fire starters and you do not own a dryer so what do you do? The answer is pine cones. Pine cones that have fallen from the tree, do not take down ones that are attached to the tree, work as great fire starters. Pine cones, like dryer lint, burn very fast so bring a bucket full of them. You can go to any park, wooded area or even your neighbor's yard and find pine cones. They are everywhere. The next time you go out for a camping trip you now have three additional ways you can get that camp fire lit. Gone are the old days of stuffing newspaper and cardboard boxes underneath the wood.
