Generating targeted free web traffic can be challenging, especially when you consider all the competition you face. One trick to making sure you have an upper hand is to find the traffic generators that work for your offer. Many marketers miss this all-important point.

You want targeted traffic, visitors who are actually interested in your product, and there are certain ways to get it. Her are five strategies to generate free web traffic that are proven winners.

1. Find out where your "buyers" hangs out

It's important to understand your market before you can implement this strategy. Think like they do and then locate their hangouts. For many, this will be forums and chat rooms that cater to your particular niche.

If you are selling a guide to the perfect camping trip, for example, search the internet for places like outdoor adventure forums. For a gardening product, locate sites where members discuss various aspects of this popular hobby.

There is a second important aspect to this strategy. You want forums that allow you to create a profile that contains a live link to your offer. Some forums do not offer this capability. While you can get some good ideas about your market from all related forums, don't spend too much time on those that do not provide you with this traffic generating capability.

2. Take advantage of viral marketing

Viral marketing entails creating a giveaway product that contains links to your offer and then making it available across the internet. Give it to anyone who asks and invite them to pass it along. The more people who receive your free report or ebook, the more traffic you can generate.
