3 Ideas To Help A Summer Barbecue Really Take Off

There's nothing like summertime. The smell of the "barby" on the warm summer nights, and endless hymn of the ocean's waves crashing. While there are certain characteristics that must be present in order for the summer to be "awesome," like decent weather and fruity drinks, there are a few tricks you can pick up and learn that can make your summer even more special!

What is your favorite part of the summer? Is it the anticipation of it, while suffering through the frigid winter months? Is it the Spring, when you can see the transition from the winter into the summer taking place, with the first flowers that pop up and the first beautiful day, with the windows open and the breeze filling up the car? Or is it the gathering of friends at a local hang out with good food and drinks? If it's the latter, here are some ways to ensure you're making the most of the sweet summertime.

Rule #1: You have to know your guests. There is plenty of time for big gatherings with lots of people you don't know, but the perfect barbecue is small, with only your favorite people. The biggest reason for this will be discussed in rule #2, but of course it's also important, because you want to be surrounded by people you know and like. This isn't just an opportunity for you to show everyone what a great host you are, it's for you to also enjoy yourself, which is the easiest to do when you're with people you trust and know are still going to like you, even if you burn the kabobs. Ultimately, who you're surrounded with makes or breaks your party. So invite the people that aren't going to cause drama, and whose company you truly enjoy.

Rule #2: Good food. This is important, because people are going to be expecting to eat some yummy food, and if you disappoint in the food department, unless you make up for it with fire breathing dragon entertainment or something, chances are there's no making up for it. Don't worry though, the food is really one of the easiest parts. This brings me back to Rule #1, know your guests. If you only invite people you're close with, then you know what they like. Are any of them vegetarians? If so, then make sure you get some extra veggies, or specific foods you know they like, like tofu burgers or veggie kabobs. Then, you just want to get an array of a few foods. Typically, you'll want the standard bbq foods, hot dogs, hamburgers (with and without cheese) and steak tips or chicken, or both. Check for some recipes online or ask around. Usually one of your friends will have a great marinade tip. Usually just prepare the marinade the night before, and you'll be good to go. Also, don't forget the snacks. A great healthy alternative to the usual chips and dips is a nice veggie platter with some dip. You can get tons of great recipes online too.

Rule #3: A comfortable atmosphere. Of course atmosphere is imperative to the success of most activities, however it isn't in this case. Obviously, if you have access to a beautiful roof deck overlooking the city, then it's going to be that much better to have a barbecue there, but what's most important in this situation are the guests and the furniture. You want everyone to feel comfortable and relaxed, which is why it's important to have great outdoor patio bar stools. This can really create a fun, relaxed atmosphere, and provide people a comfortable place to sit and enjoy themselves.

If you keep all of these things in mind while planning a nice get together this summer, you're sure to be a great host. A barbecue is always a great way to bring people together, and reminisce about good times you've had, while at the same time creating new ones!
