3 Mistakes Marketing Managers Make That Strangles Their Creative Juices
They don't schedule daily creative time. They never find the time to just sit down for 10 minutes, and let their minds go. Instead of using travel time as “creative thinking” time, they read the paper or listen to music on their mp3 or ipod; or are thinking about how they can “put-out” yet another office “fire”, that could very well sort itself out if left well alone. They don't carry around a 3x5 card: Creative ideas don't come when you want them to, they come when you least expect it; when you're shopping, walking the dog or watering the flowers. But these guys don't carry a 3x5 card with them to capture those bolts of genius when they appear, so they're never able to offer any new or exciting ideas in creative meetings. They don't ask themselves crazy questions: If they had allowed themselves creative thinking time, they could've asked themselves this very important question; “What would I do if I knew I had no financial limits, and the campaign couldn't fail?”.
