Email marketing is simply defined as sending emails to prospective customers. However, email marketing has its tips and tricks too. Don't think it's a walk in the park.
The first secret that I want to share with you is repetition. Every successful email marketer aka Internet marketer knows this is an invaluable strategy.
Here is a small fact for you: The average person or recipient of your emails needs to see your email aka “ads” approximately 7 times before he or she will make a purchase.
Repetition works! This is why you see the same old boring TV ad or hear the over played song on the radio…because they know the secret…repetition.
So, in order for someone to buy something from you, you should expect to send him or her numerous emails. Forget about 10 or 15 emails, you need to send 50 emails. But keep in mind, during this time, you can also advertise other products so that the recipient will take notice and one day he will click to see what you have in store for him.
It's all about timing. The customer doesn't buy when you want him or her to buy; he buys when he is ready. If you have played your cards right and kept them informed about your product, guess what, your website is the first one he will be taking a look at and because you have kept an open line of communication with him, he is more apt to feel comfortable with you and your website therefore leading to a sale.
The second secret of email marketing that I want to share with you is: Subject Line
An eye-catching subject line is either going to make the viewer open and read your email or pass it up.
Never try to sell something in your subject line. That is only a surefire way to kill your whole email campaign. You will come off as pushy and obnoxious.
In fact, I subscribe to the email lists of big name gurus just to see what they are up to. But I also subscribe to people I have never heard of. The common thread is the same. Most subject lines and email body's are so lame that I never read it anymore.
It seems that once something gets around as successful, everyone does it and it loses its magic. No one gets creative these days.
The third and final secret that I would like to share in this article is: Link Text
Never ever use something like Tiny URL or any other link hiding service in your emails. I will never open up anything if it comes to me in this form. This will kill your campaigns too. People want to see and know where they are clicking to.
So why would you hide your URL if you want to gain the trust of your prospective customer? I have no clue and I see people doing it all the time. It just doesn't make sense for your ultimate goal.
Find another way to “cloak” your links but just make sure that you tell the customer where you are taking them or you might as well kiss them goodbye.
