So, you want to build a chicken coop. Believe it or not, you’re not the only one. There are over 95,000 people each month who are looking for directions to build the perfect chicken coop. Well, in this article, I’m going to share three basic and very simple tips for building that flawless chicken coop. Ignore these at your own risk.
The very first thing you want to do is ensure that your chicken coop is rain proof. There are materials you can use which will pull this off nicely. The best part is they won’t cost you an arm and a leg. In contrast to what you might believe, chickens do NOT like the rain. The last thing that they want is for their home to be all damp and wet. If you do NOTHING else, this one piece of advice is a must or you’re going to have some very disgruntled chickens on your hand.
Next thing you want to do is make sure you build the chicken coop to last. What do I mean? You might only have one or two chickens now and feel that you don’t need anything that’s too large. But then what happens when you’re rapidly surrounded by a dozen of these fine feathered hens. Then what? You don’t want them being all cramped in their home. So build for the future and do not build for what’s staring you in the face this very moment.
Lastly, and this may be the most chief thing of all now that I’m thinking of it, you want to build the chicken coop bullet proof. Okay, not literally, as chicken wire has nothing on Kevlar, but you know what I mean. You want to keep your chickens safe from dangerous predators? Well, if that’s the truth, the last thing you want to do is build something that even one of the three little pigs wouldn’t live in. Look what happened to poor little Elmer. Most importantly, build this thing strong and build it to last. Some barbed wire might be a good idea as well.
Your chickens are important to you, right? So they merit a home that they can feel safe, dry and relaxed in. The above tips will make it so that they’ll do just that.
