3 Steps To Improving Your Fundraiser Letters
Here are 3 tips to improve your donation/sponsorship request letters... 1. Personalize A personalized letter will always have much better results than one that is not. Put yourself in the reader's shoes. Would you be more likely to help out with a letter that was addressed directly to you or your company, or a letter that was addressed to a general person. It is all about connecting! Being able to connect with your reader is one of the most important steps in any fundraiser letter. And by personalizing the letter you are taking the first big step to connecting efficiently with your reader. 2. Be direct Do not beat around the bush when it comes to asking for money. Your reader will know that the letter is a fundraising letter and they will be expecting to read about what type of funds you need! If you are vague about amounts you will turn them off. If you ask for specific funds and give reasons for needing them, you are more likely to receive those funds that you need. So instead of saying, "Please may you help us out in any little way that you can." Rather say, "We are looking for donations of $50, and if you could help us out with this small amount we would really appreciate it!. The total funds we need are $10,000 so it will only take 200 people reaching into their pockets to help us reach our much needed target." After you've given a direct amount you can always say, "If you are unable to help out with this amount then any amount that you would be able to give would be highly appreciated!" 3. Tell a Story Once again we are talking about connecting with your reader. You want them to fully understand your cause and to be emotionally drawn to it... And how do you do that? By telling a story... Give a real life story of what your cause is, or what your organization is doing, or what terrible things your organization is trying to prevent, and you will catch your reader's attention and get them emotionally involved. And someone who is emotionally involved is far more likely to contribute then someone who isn't! So write your letters with an impacting story that asks for specific funds, all the while connecting with the reader by having the letter personalized!
