3 Strategies To Create A Character With Pizzazz!

Do you create dolls or sculptures? Do you want to create a character that appeals to people? How do you create characters that will not only sell but be prized as a collectors item? If you evoke feelings, pay attention to your finishing touches, and make them one-of-a-kind you will create a winning character.

How do you awaken feelings from a complete stranger? First, you must plan your project. What type of feelings do you want to bring out in people? Once you know what feelings you want to bring forth you can set about to create that mood.

Evoke Feelings

Choosing the right color to convey mood is a very important step. Before you create a character, you should know what color you are going to use to bring forth certain feelings.

Do you want to conjure up feelings of warmth? Use red tones. How about feelings of energy or excitement? Use pure red. Vivid colors create a sense of joy. Is your character sad? Use blues. The important thing is to know what feelings the colors you are using will bring out in people.

Build on those feelings by adding texture. Soft things will create feelings of cuteness, sweetness, or cuddliness that would blend well with red tones for warmth. Hard or coarse texture would enhance feelings of coolness with your blues. Harsh textures are not appealing to people so use these sparingly in your characters.

Remind people of past experiences. If you can re-create something from the past and take people back to their childhoods, you will have a winner. Everyone loves to reminisce. If it reminds them of their favorite dog, best friend, fishing trip, school days, etc., then they will just have to have your character.

Evoke feelings from people and you will find that your characters have suddenly become more appealing.

Finishing Touches

Finishing touches can make or break your character. Adding something in their hands, or shoes, or finishing a rough edge all add to the mood of your character.

Why go to all the trouble of making your character and leaving a rough area or loose fibers? These will take away from what your are trying to convey and make your characters seem shoddy and unfinished. That is not a feeling you want to bring out in people.

Is your character oblivious to what's going on around them? Would adding an open book in their hands really help convey that feeling?

Is it winter but you put them in summer shoes or vice versa? If you did do that, then do you have a good reason? Is it communicating something important?

Really paying attention to those finishing touches will go far in adding personality to your characters.

One-Of-A-Kind

People love unique items. Something that no one or very few other people have in their possession. Having something unique makes people feel special.

Creating one-of-a-kind characters is easy. There are so many shapes, sizes, and ideas to create from. Just look around your own life to get ideas for new characters. It's more fun than making the same character over and over again.

You can tweak an already created character enough to make it another one-of-a-kind without designing a whole new character. Take care to make each character unique even though they have similar qualities.

If you can customize it in some way, that is even better. Customizing characters is a big plus to creating characters that people want.

Follow these three suggestions to create a character with pizzazz and you're on your way to providing characters that appeal to people!
