3 Things To Look For In A Home Insurance Policy
1) Find a Home insurance Policy that includes physical damage coverage. Most companies pay for certain accidental damages that may happen to your home, its structures and personal belongings. These may include vandalism, wind, fire and falling objects that may cause physical damages to your property. There are two types of physical damage coverage – “named peril” and “comprehensive” policies. The named peril policies offer you protection against losses that are listed specifically or “named”, as its name suggests, in your policy. On the other hand, the comprehensive policies provide coverage for causes of damages – sudden, direct or accidental – even if they are included in your policy. If you prefer to pay lower premiums, go for the named peril policy, but if you need complete coverage, then a comprehensive policy is your best choice. 2) Find a Home Insurance Policy that includes Liability Coverage. You’ll never know if someone would file claims or lawsuits against you when accidents on your premises or your negligence may cause liabilities. If you want to be protected with events such as medical expenses, pain and suffering, damages to properties of others and lost wages, make sure to check the “liabilities” portion of your policy. Liability coverages help you financially for your defense in such lawsuits. However, this does not pay claims for damages or injuries to you and the members of your household. Be aware that liability coverages may vary from one policy to the next. In choosing policies, make sure that the insurance provides enough liability coverage, so you would have protection if you are sued and judgments are issued against you. It is better to think about this now, or be caught up in an expensive lawsuit without hurting your bank account. 3) Check out deductibles and coverage limits. Deductibles are the parts of physical damage losses that you agree to shoulder out of your own pocket, while the coverage limits are the maximum prices an insurance company is willing to pay for the loss. Be aware that low deductibles and high limits usually result in higher premium costs. As such, you should look for an insurance policy with lower deductibles and higher coverage limits. Be aware that there is no “standard policy” and no policy can ever be alike. While insurance companies offer the named peril policy and comprehensive policy as standards, the degree and amount of coverage vary dramatically from one insurance policy to the next. Because of this, it is very important to research for insurance companies, determine the type of coverage you need and ensure the policy you choose covers them.
