3 Tips For Growing Beautiful Phal Orchids

The Phal orchid, or Phalaenopsis, is considered the easiest orchid to grow and care for. Maybe this is why the Phal is one of the most recognized flowers around. It’s the orchid mostly seen at the florist and everywhere else.

You see them in restaurants, posh cafes, featured on magazine covers, book covers, you name it. If you have seen a delicate, single-stemmed orchid being photographed for its fragile beauty, then you have met the Phalaenopsis.

Why is the phal orchid or the “moth orchid” as it is also called, the recommended orchid for beginners and considered the easiest to grow? Mainly because this orchid does not require no more care and maintenance than any other plant; and it adapts well to its environment.

But like all plants, you will need to know what the phal orchid needs. Knowing these things will ensure a healthy, blooming plant.

Here are some basic care tips for the Phal orchid.

Light Requirement.Place the phal in low, medium, or bright light. Now this does not means long exposure to the direct sun. This plant does not fare well when exposed to direct sunlight. Try placing it in a window facing east so it can get the benefits of the cooler morning sun and also get some shade.

Water Requirement.This plant does not like being dry. If the phal does not get enough water it will die. Water it at least once per week or every other week. If you choose to water it every other week, then make sure you check the soil to make it is not completely dry.

If the soil is moist, this is good and means the plant is getting a constant stream of moisture. Dry soil means either you are not watering the plants for more than a week or the humidity in the area has changed.

Fertilizer.The phal requires a mild fertilizer application on a weekly basis, especially during the most active growing phase. Try to use a high quality, water soluble fertilizer. Try not to overfeed the orchid during the winter months.

Keeping these guidelines in mind will ensure healthy, blooming phal orchids. With the right amount of care and attention, you will be able to grow beautiful plants giving you and your family enjoyment for years to come.
