3 Tips For Spicing Up Your Resume

Websites like Monster.com know that in today's market, getting a job is no walk in the park. With hundreds of resumes flying at employers for every job posting they list, making your resume stand out from the crowd is not only a benefit anymore, it's a necessity. Here's how to shine and impress on one page or less.

1. Brag a Bit

Make sure you don't lie, but feel free to brag about your accomplishments a bit. Make sure to mention awards and points of pride within your line of work. If it's something you're proud to have accomplished, it's something your new employer should want to know about as well.

2. Forget Your Past

If you're a college graduate, forget about what you did in high school. If you have a degree, it is assumed that you have a diploma. If you did a lot of community service five years ago but no longer do that, it's probably worth your time to leave it off your list now. It just invites questions of why you're no longer serving. Try to focus on things two years old or less. This will also help you slim down a wordy resume.

3. Use Power Words

Don't tell your potential employer that you "oversaw a project." Instead, use power words such as managed, directed and ensured to create a powerful statement like, "Managed five employees to direct a large scale project and ensure quality results."
