3 Ways Your Website Should Reflect Your Company Branding

Most successful businesses have taken the time to sit down and determine what makes the business unique and how they want their customers to see their business. When putting a website together, it's important that your website is sending the right message about your business.

Consistent Selling Position
Probably the most basic step in having a solid business plan is knowing exactly who your products or service is marketed to. Your website needs to sell to that group, or it has failed you as a marketing tool. Also consider what makes your business unique. An effective website will play on those unique points to drive home how your business is different, so you're the obvious choice to a consumer for that product or service.

Consistent Presentation
If all your paper marketing material, business cards, and in-store marketing uses brown colors, switching to bright colors for the website may be a big mistake. Just because a web designer can make a flashy website that has all kinds of really cool design elements, all his efforts may end up hurting your branding in the end. Aside from colors, there should also be consistency in the style of images, music, and overall design.

Consistent Personality
If your other marketing material is written in down to earth language, and your website is written so only someone with a Phd can read it, your website designer has done you a disservice. If you get the sense that your website designer isn't going to write in a style you're comfortable with, it may be best to write the text on the website yourself or to pay someone else to write the text so you get the message communicated how you want it to. Also keep in mind that if your business frequently sprinkles in a joke or regularly references experts that your website should follow suit with the same approach.
