3 Ways To Change Your Dog Food Without Upsetting Your Dog

1. Changing the type of food

If the food you are feeding your dog doesn’t suit it, then maybe it's time for a change. Changing a dog’s food doesn’t hurt it, as long as the change is done properly. Before choosing a new brand, look at the nutritional information on your current dog food and compare the differences.

2. Are you changing flavour, not brand?

If you feed your dog a certain brand of dog food and only want to change the flavour then this will be an easy process. For example, if you feed your dog Arden Grange Chicken and Rice dog food and want to change to Arden Grange Lamb and Rice dog food, this can be done over a couple of days and the dog shouldn’t suffer any side effects, such as an upset stomach.

3. Timescale for changing

When the time comes to change the dog food brand it is best to change over a one week period. Make sure you have enough of the old food to last a week when you purchase the new food. Then on day one feed the dog three quarters old food with one quarter new food and keep to that formula for 2-3 days.

Then change to half old food and half new food and again do that for 2-3 days. Once you have done that for a couple of days then change to one quarter old food and three quarters new food for the final couple of days. Once the couple of days is up then switch completely to the new food. By changing the dog food this way it will help to keep the dogs stomach settled.
