4 Things You Must Have In Your Diet To Combat Acne

The American diet and especially diet of the American teenager in particular is not skin-healthy. Actually it's not healthy for any part of your body.

Let’s look at what teenagers like to eat - pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries — and then they wash it down with nice, fizzy sodas. Add to the list “healthy” snacks like chips and candy bars.

Now this diet might be great for your taste buds, the rest of your body is suffering — a lot. You see, food is supposed to be fuel for your body. It supposed to provide your body with nutrients needed to function properly — including the skin! And you are what you eat, literally.

So here are 4 things that you need to start adding to your daily diet in quantity.

1) EFAs

Your skin needs nutrients called EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids). You’ll find EFAs in foods such as shellfish, flaxseed, hemp oil, soya oil, canola oil, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, leafy green vegetables, and walnuts — none of which are included in the average American teenager's diet.

2) Vitamin A

Vitamin A is another essential nutrient needed for healthy skin. You’ll find Vitamin A in many foods…until they are cooked. Raw vegetables contain lots of vitamin A, but cooked vegetables contain little or none.

Why? The reason is because Vitamin A gets destroyed by heat while cooking.

Other Vitamin A sources are raw fruit also contains and unprocessed fruit juice. Some of the best food sources for vitamin A are carrots, broccoli, kale, spinach, peaches, apricots, and mangos.

3) Zinc

Zinc is important to help maintain healthy skin, as well. Some foods that are high in zinc are brewers yeast, whole grains, Brazil nuts, and pumpkin seeds, but because it is difficult to get enough zinc in the most balanced of diets, it is usually recommended that a zinc supplement be taken by mouth everyday.

4) Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 is another key nutrient needed for maintaining healthy skin. Vitamin B6 performs a key function in helping to maintain blood sugar levels.

You’ll find Vitamin B6 in fortified cereals, beans, meat, poultry, fish, and some fruits and
vegetables. One thing that a Vitamin B6 deficiency can cause is dermatitis.

An easy way to make sure you get enough Vitamin B6 is to take a multi-vitamin. For those who
have Acne, additional B6 supplements can be used.

So there you have it, eating chocolate and French fries won't cause acne. That is a generally accepted fact in the medical community but NOT eating a diet that is skin healthy, however, can certainly be the root cause of your skin problems, including acne.
