K-2 Northern Areas

Many people are familiar with the fact that Northern areas of Pakistan are blessed with some of the tallest peaks and mountains in the world in the Great Himalayas. The most popular and renowned peak is K-2 as known also Mt. Godwin Austin. Its height is about 28,250 ft. or 8611 meters which makes its 2nd highest peak in the World after Mount Everest. Other mountains include well-known Nanga Parbat of about 26,660 ft./8126 meters (8th in World) and Gasherbrum about 26,470 ft./8068 meters (11th in World).Some of the famous mountain passes are The Khyber Pass, The Kurram Pass, The Tochi Pass, The Gomal Pass, The Bolan Pass, The Lowari Pass, The Khunjrab Pass.

Nathiagali

Nathia Gali or Nathiagali is one of the mountain resort towns of the Galyat area of Pakistan. Nathia Gali town also serves as the administrative centre of Nathia Gali union council. It is located in Abbottabad District, North West Frontier Province. At 2500m (8200ft), it is a popular tourist resort in the summer months. It is forested with pine, walnut and also oak and maple trees.The church in Nathigali is a remnant from the period of British Government, it is totally made of wood. It is situated at the edge of the Church in Nathiagalimountain from which there is a beautiful sight. Kashmir can be seen right behind this church, and is a wonderful scene.Nathigali has a mini bazzar. The nearest place to Nathi Gali is Kala Bagh. Mukeshpuri and Miranjani are two nearby high peaks.

Nanga Parbat - Northern Areas

Another place to visit is Nanga Parbat. The ninth highest mountain on Earth. Nanga Parbat means "Naked Mountain" in Urdu, parbat deriving from the Sanskrit word parvata meaning "mountain". Nanga Parbat was one of the deadliest of the eight-thousanders for climbers in the first half of the twentieth century; since that time it has been less so, though still an extremely serious climb. It is also an immense, dramatic peak that rises far above its surrounding terrain.

Naran - Northern Areas

At Naran, 23 kms from Kaghan you reach the halfway point. Naran also serves as the base for the whole valley. Most visitors to Naran pay a visit to Saiful Muluk Lake (10,500 feet) 6 miles east of town.Lake Saif-ul-Mulk, named because Prince Saif-ul-Mulk-supposedly drowned here together with his beloved fairy princess by her jealous demon lover, reflects the surrounding peaks and alpine meadows in its crystal clear waters.

If the road is open you can arrange transportation by jeep. If the road is closed, it is an easy, gradual three-hour walk, and the lake is a lovely spot for a picnic.July and August see more visitors as compared to the other months of summer. Local people do most of their business to earn livelihood for the whole year in these two to three months. Their businesses vary from teashops to rent-a-jeep service.
