4 Tips On How To Grow The Roses

Grow the roses

There are many ways to grow roses. The most important part regarding growing roses is planning. Even though roses need little care in general to grow, or to have dazzling rose bushes in your garden, it takes a lot of hard work and care. If you do not plan out your growing scheme well, you may be doomed to fail since there are certain ‘must have’ details while planting roses. Sunlight, watering and pruning are all major factors when it comes to growing roses. If you are not up to this type of work to create a spectacular rose bed in your garden, you may want to consider planting a different type of flower. However, if you are up to the challenge, then you should certainly continue to read on.

Roses and Sunlight

A prime planning tool when one wants to grow the roses is to find a spot full of sunlight. Roses need at least four hours of prime sunlight everyday. If you can find a place that can offer the plant more sunlight then that may be for the better. However, in extremely hot areas, you may want to find a place that can offer a few hours of shade as well as to not dry out the rose bush. Once you have found the perfect sunny spot for these flowers you can move onto the next step in the rose growing planning.

Roses and Watering

Roses love water but they do not like to go swimming. In other words, the soil around the roses must be moist at all times but the water cannot build up so that it drowns the roots of the plant. Generally, the spot that has the perfect amount of sunlight may not always be the perfect watering spot. Therefore, it is better to use the spot with the best sunlight and create a raised bed in order to get the type of watering ground that you need. You can raise the bed over the soil level by creating a mound of soil mixed with compost, peat and humus. This will allow the water to seep into the mound with all excess water trickling down so as to not drown the rose roots.

Watering Tips

• To keep the soil nice and moist, add about 3 inches of moss all around the plant. This will keep the moisture in and the rose bush happy.
• Water the plant every day for a week after planting.
• Water the rose bush once a week or as needed depending on the climate until the winter.
• Water the roots of the plant and never the foliage, especially after pruning as this may cause disease or death of the plant.

Roses and Pruning

Pruning is the last step in creating the perfect rose bush. Pruning helps to keep the plant healthy by eliminating any dying or diseased parts of the plant, allowing for more sunlight and air circulation and by creating a robust plant. Pruning should be performed with the cut being at a 45 degree angle.
