5 Attractions To Visit Around Alicante
So what are some of the things one could do while in Alicante? First of, you can’t go to Alicante and not head for their beaches. Though it’s probably not top priority if you just have one day to explore, it’s still well worth the visit. After all, a holiday isn’t complete without a relaxing day at the beach. Head for Playa de San Juan; a beach easily accessible by tram. Though there’re much nearer beaches, I recommend this one as it’s not so crowded, is considered to be one of the best in Spain and offers 7km of blissful white soft sand heaven. Another attraction that you simply can’t miss out on would be the Santa Barbara Castle located in Alicante City. Overlooking the beautiful city, this impressive castle is one of the largest fortresses in Europe to date. The castle has everything you can think of, from dungeons to cannons, a moat and secret chambers. This is no doubt one of the highest points in Alicante, offering a scenic view and leaving with you with dozens of beautiful pictures to take back home. Next on the list, head for the Plaza de Toros (a bullring) which was built in 1849 and is one of the oldest and is still being used today. Watch a bullfight or head for a one-of-a-kind museum specially dedicated to bullfighting, with capes and costumes on exhibition. To know Alicante better, take a stroll down the grand La Explanada de Espana, which is known by many locals as the heart and soul of Alicante. Stretching around and cross the marina, this beautiful boulevard radiates romance as you take an evening walk on the dramatic marble tiles depicting the waves of the Mediterranean ocean. Most of Alicante live the simple life, but if you’re looking to catch a glimpse at the upscale part of this city, the Alicante Marina and El Puerto complex provides you just that. Stylish bars, beautiful houses and yachts and fine dining restaurants are all within reach here. Take a short boat ride across the harbor during the day or if you prefer a slower pace, go for a moonlight stroll during the night, with the lights of the Marina and El Puerto complex illuminating your path.
