Your writing defines you on the net. Like it or not, you are judged on its quality. A poor impression may cost you business or sully your reputation. Improving your writing doesn't have to mean hours poring over grammar books or taking expensive courses.

Here are 5 tips to improve your writing quickly:

Modeling: Good quality writing is all over the internet. Find articles from the AP, Rolling Stone, Salon, or any reputable source. Simply write your article using the same sentence structure as the model article. Once you get into the rhythm, flow, and structure of good writing, it will come much easier to you.

Get rid of that: 'That' may be the most worthless word in the English language. Go over your article before hitting the send button and eliminate 'that' whenever you see it. You'll find in most cases eliminating it will improve the flow of your writing.

Don't depend exclusively on spellcheckers: A spellchecker can't save you from using they're instead of their, or loose instead of lose. Usage mistakes are more damaging to your writing than typos or misspelled words. Take some time before submitting your article. Then read it looking for usage mistakes. If possible, have a friend read it before you publish. A pair of fresh eyes will catch things that you do not.

Write plainly. Never use a big word when a little one will do. The sky is blue, not cerulean. Don't utilize tools, use them. You want to communicate with people, not play the little professor.

Beware the comma. Experienced writers know that the comma was put on the earth to confuse both writers and readers. If you're in doubt as to whether or not you should use a comma, don't.
