The ongoing battle between cable and satellite TV has gotten quiet heated. You'll even find numerous consumers battling it out online via consumer forums and articles about which is the better technology. Each consumer is convinced that their preferred technology is the best – obviously, they couldn't be wrong, could they? One surprising fact is the number of consumers who tout cable as the superior technology. You'll come across quite a few articles and comment boards stating that cable is still a viable choice. Is it true? Is cable really the better technology? Here, you'll find five very compelling reasons that cable is not the winner, that satellite is a better choice for your needs.
Reason #1 – Sheer Cost – The cost inherent with cable should be an immediate tipoff that their technology may be a bit lacking. You will find that even the most measly package from a cable provider runs at least $40 (compared to $30 with satellite). That's quite a difference when you add it up over the course of a year. In addition, satellite companies continually offer introductory rates that bring you up to 150 channels for that price. Finally, you will find that for less than what cable companies charge for their basic programming, you can get access to more than 200 channels through satellite TV (cable only offers about 180 or so, even with their most expensive package).
Reason #2 – Number of Channels – The sheer number of channels available through satellite TV providers trumps cable companies every time. For instance, the most expensive channel package from the cable company only offers 180 channels (as mentioned above). However, satellite providers offer you access to more than 350 channels with their most expensive package.
Reason #3 – Availability – If you live outside of the city or a township, you'll find that getting cable can be problematic. Not so, with satellite providers. Satellite signal is available throughout North America, as long as you have a clear view of the sky to the south. Orbiting satellites over the equator continually beam your programming directly to the satellite dish at your home, bringing you the TV programming you want, no matter where you live. Cable cannot claim anything remotely close to this.
Reason #4 – Quality – Satellite TV has always been all-digital. While cable companies are now being forced to make the switch from analog signals, they're not happy about it. In fact, they're passing the cost of the transition along to their customers. This means that cable customers must now pay more for the channels they already had, just so they can watch them in digital format.
Reason #5 – Ongoing Development – Cable technology has almost nowhere left to go, in terms of future developments. They are "maxed out." Not so, for satellite companies. Their future is bright, indeed. In fact, numerous advanced homebuilding companies are collaborating with satellite providers to produce "smart homes" that will enable you to enjoy greater convenience and more comfort in your day-to-day life.
