5 Steps Secret Recipe That Catfish Will Love

Catfish have a wonderful sense of smell and average eyesight. So your bait’s got to stink to the heavens and look harmless enough to get their attention. And hook has got to be big, at least a 2/0, because the catfish will likely spit the smaller hook right out.

Another problem you have to face while fishing for catfish is that sometimes they just pick out the bait from the hook. It is therefore necessary to make sure that you have the bait nicely wound round the hook in such a way that the fish can’t get it out. Or you could use a treble hook instead of a normal one. I always use treble hooks when I go catfishing. It is also important to take more than one rod with you. Always have two or three lines dipped in when you are out fishing. You will have better luck snagging catfish.

Everybody has their own catfish recipe. Mine involves the use of a blender. If you don’t have one that you needn’t share with your ball and chain, go get one. You can thank me later for the splendid idea.

All ready there? Here’s the recipe:

1. Go to the frozen food section of the supermarket and buy some shrimp or shellfish. Also buy fish oil and organic chicken. (whole if possible)

2. Cut up the chicken liver and half of the shell fish into chunks and put them into a blender.

3. Blend the stuff to a paste.

4. Take the remaining shellfish or shrimp and shell them. Then dip them in fish oil. Take each piece out and dip them in the chicken liver and shrimp paste.

5. Borrow some corn flour or all purpose flour from your wife’s larder and roll the shrimp into it.

6. Your bait is ready to use.

If my recipe didn’t work for you, you can try what other people have tried. You can try cornflakes, cheeseballs, cornflour and cheese balls, peanut butter and bread crumbs, frosted flakes and jelly, nightcrawlers dipped in fish oil, dogfood, catfood, and even ivory soap. No one knows why the fish like ivory soap; but they do like it. When you’ve tried everything, try spreading some ground corn flakes or chicken blood around your line in the water. That sort of thing attracts them.

Some people are still old fashioned enough to use garden worms. I avoid using garden worms, because that kind of bait sometimes attracts smaller fish. Some people use cut bait like bluegills. I have never used live bait like bluegills or sunfish, but people say that using them is very efficacious. But do remember that using live bait is prohibited in some states.

If you don’t want to get your hands dirty or don’t want to work with anything yucky, you could browse through your supermarket’s fishing equipment section for prepared bait. There’s every kind of bait available in the marts these days; there’s soak baits, blood baits, cheese baits, dip baits, punch baits, prepared frozen baits, you name it, it’s all out there. All you need to do is pick something that catches your fancy. And you are ready to go.
