5 Things You Should Focus On For The Ccent Exam

For those of you just starting out and are not sure where you should start studying for the CCENT Exam I would make sure that you focus on these 5 topics. While there are many more topics on the test you will take these are some of the bigger ones that make up most of the exam.

1) The CCENT Exam is all about networks and so you will need to learn how data travels between routers. A big component of the CCENT Exam is the routing protocol RIPv2. RIPv2 is pretty close to the same as RIPv1 but RIPv2 is able to support variable length subnet masks which is a huge improvement. Because of it's ability to support VLSM this brings me into the next topic that you will need to focus on.

2) The ability to subnet networks is crucial these days. There is so much traffic going around and networks are only growing larger and larger. The ability to break an ip address range into subnets is extremely important. Not only will this make you a valuable network administrator, your knowledge in this subject will determine whether or not you pass the test.

3) The OSI Model is probably central to everything that you will study for the CCENT Exam. Be sure to study all 7 of its layers and understand how they all work together.

4) The CCENT Exam covers a lot of physical media which is Layer 1 of the OSI Model. Be sure to study all the cable types and different kinds of cables. With Cat 5 cable be sure you know all about the different pairs inside the shielding and what the difference is between the straight through cable and a cross over cable.

5) Focus on the IOS. Focus on the command line interface. Learn how to move around inside both routers and switches so that you can see what currently is configured and maybe detect any errors to fix.
