5 Tips To Make Your Property Seem Larger
Tip 1: Who Needs a Coffee Table? You probably put two things on your coffee table: magazines and your feet. Do you really need to waste all that space in your small living room on such a useless piece of furniture? Offer it to friends and family members, on the condition that they come pick it up, and you'll be doing yourself a huge favor. Tip 2: Box TVs Are Dinosaurs If you know what's good for your career, social life, and general fulfillment as a human being, you'll sell your television and never look back. As some people are not quite ready to reach this pinnacle of the self-actualization pyramid, here's an alternative: replace your old box TV with a flat panel plasma or LCD, and hang it on the wall. Tip 3: Using Mirrors to Create the Illusion of Space One of the oldest illusions in the interior design repertoire is the use of mirrors to make spaces look larger than they are. A few cheap but effective ways to use mirrors to get that rental agreement signed are installing mirrors on closet doors, both sides of bathroom doors, and framed, long, horizontal mirrors hung decoratively on the wall. Tip 4: Use of Light Colors This may sound new age or hokey, but the fact is dark colors feel constrictive to humans, and make the walls and floors (the boundaries of the interior space) stand out more to the human eye. When painting, consider light colors (such as off-whites) for the walls, and for the carpets or hardwood floors. Hardwood floors are, incidentally, a huge boost to attract signatures at the bottom of your sales contract or rental agreement. Tip 5: Sell the Desk (and the Desktop Computer) Desktop computers are, like box TVs, dinosaurs that are simply no longer worth the hassle or space. Switch over to a laptop, which boasts portability, small size, a quarter of the power usage, and (best of all) an end to your now-obsolete desk. Sure, you also store files in your desk, but guess what? Those files you access once/month can sit in a box or in the basement, and don't need to take up your precious space in your living room, bedroom, or office. Whether you're trying to sell, trying to rent, or trying to expand your own living space, everyone wants more space. The actual square footage of your property matters little; what matters is how the space looks and feels, both to you and to the prospective tenants or buyers you're trying to woo for that sales contract or rental agreement.
