5 Unique Bulletin Board Decorations For Winter
Did You Know You're Unique? Students are unique. Each student has their own ideas, personal interests, goals, and personality. This provides a wonderful opportunity to actually emphasize the differences and the uniqueness of each student. While teaching students about how snow forms, what it's created from, and other fun facts have them cut out snowflakes from white colored paper. After the snowflakes are cut, have your students write unique things about themselves on the cut-outs. Include a lesson about adjectives by having them only list descriptive words about themselves. sparkles, glitter, or tissue paper squares may help to liven up a white or light blue background before the snowflakes are hung. After you are done you can have the students sit on comfortable classroom carpets and share unique qualities about one another! Who is Hibernating? A "Who is Hibernating?" theme for your classroom bulletin board can be a great way to turn the bulletin board into a teaching tool by incorporating some easy science concepts. Using construction paper, cut-out or draw a handful of animals that hibernate during the winter. If an interactive bulletin board is needed, place the animal on 1 side of the bulletin board labeled with numbers and the location where they hybernate (i.e. - nest, cave, hole in a tree, etc.) on the other side. Students can match the animals with their hideaways by using clear pockets and little number cards that correspond to the animals. Martin Luther King Jr. Around the middle of January or so the topics of diversity and equality are usually discussed because it's around Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. To display diversity on the bulletin board cut out hand prints from a bunch of different colors and place them on a background of plain white paper. Make sure you have your students trace both hands onto the colored construction paper. On the hands the students can write, "Acceptance Starts With Me," "Tolerance Begins Here," or another appropriate saying to address the issue of accepting diversity. This bulletin board idea is not only wonderful for teaching about tolerance and acceptance, but it also provides a fantastic opportunity to discuss the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebrate the 100th Day! It's typically sometime around the winter months that the 100th day of school falls. You can quickly turn this celebration of the 100th day into a mathematics lesson by integrating the power of ten in the classroom bulletin board decoration. For a quick visual lesson you can use erasers, pencils, popsicle sticks, or gumdrops in sets of 100 on the bulletin board. Using those types of decorations can also make for a very colorful and pretty display! Have a Heart This year why not change things up for Valentine's Day and make the bulletin board an actual heart? By creating an actual heart on your bulletin board you can teach lessons about general health, exercise, and circulation.
