5 Ways To Enjoy Pregnancy

Go to a Chiropractor regularly

Going to a chiropractor regularly, along with getting massages on a regular basis throughout your pregnancy, is my biggest recommendation. Being pregnant puts a lot of extra weight and pressure on your spine and back muscles. The problems that can result from this are numerous, sciatica, breach baby, and moderate to severe back pain are just a few of a long list. Your body is already going through a tremendous ordeal. You do not need to make it any worse. It will also help if you are aware of how you are holding your body when you are walking, standing, and sitting.

Exercise daily

If your doctor says it is acceptable for you to do, daily exercise increases happy endorphins and gets your blood pumping. I felt better about myself when I exercised, and on top of that it was great for the baby too. Watch your heart rate if you are doing heavy cardio like running or bike riding. You do not want to reach the fat burning zone. If your heart is pumping too fast it will affect the blood being pumped to the uterus.

Indulge, but only occasionally

When you are pregnant it is nice to feel like you can have a little fun eating those extra calories everyday but do not go over board. A cheeseburger or ice cream cone is great every once in a while but do not make it part of your daily routine. It is not good for you and it is especially not good for the baby.

Buy some nice maternity pieces

Near the end of my pregnancy I remember putting on a sweater at the end of the day so I could go for a walk around the neighborhood. My husband had inadvertently put it through the dryer and it would no longer fit, just like almost every piece of clothing I owned at the time. I burst into tears. One of the hardest things for me during my pregnancy was feeling like a huge whale, even though by pregnancy standards I was tiny. It was after that incident that I finally caved and bought a super cute maternity dress that made me feel like a cute pregnant woman and not a ginormous whale. Next time around I will go out and find some maternity essentials for my wardrobe. I'm not talking about the pants with the elastic band attached. A nice dress, a comfy sweater, a few flattering shirts, and some items that will make me feel fabulous.

Find a lactation consultant before labor just in case

I wanted so badly to breast feed my baby, but I was not able to. My body was not producing enough milk for my son. He was starving and I did not realize it until the doctor gave us premie formula near the end of his third week of life. At the time he was still below his birth weight. My body could not keep up with his demands, and I had no one to tell me what to do. No one at the hospital talked to me about lactation consultants, and the only advice I got from the doctor was to try breast feeding as often as possible, which did nothing to increase my milk flow. It was not until two months later I got advice from a friend about her experience with a lactation consultant. My milk flow had stopped by this time, but next pregnancy I will call up a lactation consult before the baby arrives so I know that my body will be ready.
