5 Ways To Save When Visiting Edinburgh On A Budget

 

Think Edinburgh is expensive... Think again here are five top tips to enjoy a stress and expense free city break - while enjoying the culture and sights of the historic Edinburgh.

The Scottish National Gallery situated just off Princes Street is the perfect location for a pop of culture...and here's the best bit...it's free! The gallery is home to a huge selection of paintings from the likes of Degas, Da Vinci and Lichtenstein. Over the next few months there is a variety of lectures available from the curators of different exhibitions. At present the curator of The Young Vermeer Exhibition is giving regular introduction talks throughout January, he is discussing the paintings, their historical context and offering question and answer sessions. Admission is free and the gallery is open 10am - 5pm daily with special late night opening on a Thursday to 7pm.

Fancy seeing the whole city for free? Then consider one of the many free walking tours around the city! Sandemans free tour has even been considered the second most popular attraction in all of Edinburgh according to Trip Advisor and well worth a go! The tour lead by well prepared informative guides takes you on a three and a half hour tour around the city taking in sights such as Greyfriars Kirk Yard, The Scott Monument and Edinburgh Castle. The tour begins daily at the Tron Kirk situated on the Royal Mile at 11am and 1pm.

Have your imagination grabbed by the Royal Botanic Gardens; these Gardens are less than two miles from the city centre with over 70 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds provide a tranquil haven. The Botanic Gardens has something for everyone who visits: from the knowledgeable gardener to the curious sightseer. A must see for free!

A walk to Chambers street will allow you to unearth the National Museum of Scotland: open daily 10am - 5pm this museum houses an unbelievable collection to impressive everyone. From Fossils of ancient whales to the pocket watch of the Swan shipwreck.
