5 Worst Reasons For Learning Guitar With Books

Are you wanting to learn guitar, but are not sure where to start? Have you considered private lessons, taking classes
at school, group lessons, online classes, books, or even DVD's to do at home? There are a lot of options out there,
how do you know which one to choose?

Well, to help narrow your list, here are the top 5 reasons why you should not go with books:

1. There is no teacher to be there with you. You don't get any advice, critique, or guidance when you are playing. It's good to have someone else to either show you the correct technique, notes, etc. or to catch any mistakes
you make.

2. If you are learning guitar on your own through books, you are more likely to not make time to practice, get
frustrated with yourself and give up, or you just don't have the self-discipline that is needed to really succeed on
the guitar. Taking private lessons will keep you practicing, since the teacher usually has a set time that you
come each week. Also, practicing with another friend who is learning guitar is a good idea.

3. If you have any questions about the music, or you just want to be sure on something, you are on your own to
figure it out. It can be tough trying to learn a particular skill on your own if you don't pick it up right away
from the book, which is why it's so nice to get feedback from a professional guitarist.

4. Books are very limited. Whatever is in the book is what you get. Sure, some books have basic information and
beginner techniques in them, but that's it. Books don't teach you how to play songs by ear or how to take basic
knowledge and apply that knowledge to more advanced techniques.

5. Books don't always have the style of songs you want to learn, or even a particular song you would like to learn
(Unless you track down a certain book and buy it). The only way to learn your favorite song is to find it in a book
and spend a lot of time teaching it to yourself, and trust me, it takes A LOT more time to learn the song if you are
teaching yourself.

I hope this list helps you in deciding which guitar-learning method is right for you. There are a lot of good options
out there, so I know there is one that is right for you. The best place to start learning guitar would be in your own home, but not though books. Don't waste your money on private lessons or waste your time trying to teach yourself. Instead, invest a little money in an at-home DVD guitar lessons course, which can save you $1,000's compared to private guitar lessons!
