6 Mistakes To Avoid While Writing Articles For The Web

Many writers will tell you that writing for the web is a cake-walk. Don’t be fooled by such assertions! There are smart readers on the web who will immediately reject your ‘cake-walk’ article as a piece of trash if it doesn’t meet their expectations. The Web is surely not a place to post inane writing. If you aspire to grab audience on the web and promote your online business, it becomes important that you sidestep the blunders that writers normally make.

To establish your reputation as a good writer, tackle the following six common errors.

1. The content of your article reads as though it’s vying for a good search engine ranking.
If the article is written mainly for your benefit, not many readers will scan the write up through its end. Think from the audience point of view. Answer honestly if the feature provides the reader with what he/she is looking for. If you think not, start afresh. Besides, avoid making your article appear like a self promotional piece.

2. You are very sure of your grammar, spellings and punctuation marks. However, the truth is otherwise.
Many writers concentrate totally on the content and as a result, don’t give much importance to grammar, use of punctuation marks and proper spellings. A poorly written article is sure to put many readers off because bad grammar makes little sense. It’s a good practice to get your work proof-read by someone, if possible, a professional.

Also give the article proper formatting through appropriate paragraph divisions.

3. Your beginnings don’t know your endings.
Admit that you haven’t researched your subject well. You start on a promising note, dwindle mid-way and your conclusion is simply not what you had in mind. The article goes on and on but does not give the audience the required information. The rule here is to write in depth but succinctly.

4. Improper heading that scarcely gets the pulse of the reader racing.
The content of your feature is good. Yet, it does not give you the number of audience you want. Check the title of the article. Is it eye-catching? Does it promise a boring thesis topic? Or even worse, the heading has nothing to do with the content of the article!

Give the article a suitable caption. But at same time ensure that it interests the audience.

5. Cut/Copy, paste and your work is done!
Under no circumstances plagiarize. Writing a popular article in your own words is not a good idea as well. After all, you are not giving the readers anything new.

If you are not a writer, a good strategy is to employ ghost writers. But ensure that you have exclusive rights over the works produced for you.

6. A professor would give your feature an A grade.
Little wonder since the article reads like a boring pandering tome, best suited for a college library journal!

No offence intended but this is not what the audience wants. You have to GRAB your readers’ attention and keep them interested throughout. Spice up the article with your writing style. But don’t let it read like fluff either!
