6 Suggestions For Overcoming A Creativity Block While Writing

The main ingredient in writing a creative and interesting article is creativity. While creativity may come naturally most of the time you will, occasionally, run into a creativity block. Before you start pulling your hair try one or more of these suggestions to get your creative juices flowing.

Here are some tried and true suggestions for getting over your writer's block.

1) Keep a small notebook with you at all times. Anything, anywhere, at any moment can spark an idea. When you get a great thought look at it from many different ways. Use the who, what, where, when and why questions to keep the idea flowing. If you're writing an article about something tangible what does it look like, does it have a smell, how does it feel or sound. Use your senses to get a different perspective. This, alone, will help you develop your idea into a full blown article.

2) Your emotions or state of mind will also affect how you look at your writing and if you even have any patience to write at that moment. Take a 30-60 minute drive by yourself (remember to bring paper or a tape recorder

Relax and take time to sort things out. Give you head a chance to clear out and allow free flowing thoughts. A jumbled mind cannot create any space for new ideas. Get rid of all obstacles that can obstruct your creativity. If you are bothered by something, you can not force your mind to stay focused.

3) Create a working place that can inspire your creativeness. Your working place can actually make you apprehensive if it can not feel relaxed working in it. If your normal work space isn't working try a different part of the house, go outside, or even to the park or beach. Bring your notebook or laptop with you to capture your new thoughts. Creativity comes from being in a good state of mind and a messed up workplace that causes distraction won't be conducive in firing up your creative flow.

4) Go on a getaway and just do something unusual for you. Letting yourself go and have fun produces adrenaline that can make your imagination go wild. Take a 30-60 minute drive by yourself (remember to bring paper or a tape recorder, just in case). Getting away and listening to the monotonous sounds of your tires on the pavement kicks in the creativity after 30 minutes. Whatever it is that is unusual from your daily routine can take the rut out of your schedule. In no time at all, your creativeness will make use of that experience and get your imagination to go on overdrive.

5) Do more research and writing exercises. The old stand-by that will work over and over again - Take a clean sheet of paper or a blank screen and just start writing. It does not matter what you write, just do not stop for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes read everything you wrote. You either came up with an idea to work with or you were able to get all the extra 'stuff' out of your head and can start writing again.

6) You can always go through that tried and true writing exercise. Take a clean sheet of paper or a blank screen and just start writing. it does not matter what you write, just do not stop for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes read everything you wrote. If these do not work try this strategy to work through to get your mind back onto your article: Stop and do more research. Combat the feeling of not knowing what to say by finding more information about your topic. What are other's saying about it? Doing research is a great way to gather your thoughts and ideas.

When you experience a block in your creativity while writing your article try these exercises or strategy. If all else fails, walk away for a while and come back when you feel refreshed.
